ROLE: Duty hotel & bistro manager
HOURS: Full time
Beck Hall Malham is in search of a warm, welcoming and hands-on duty hotel and bistro manager.
This dynamic dual role would involve covering the running of the hotel or the bistro in the absence of the hotel and bistro managers.
When on duty as hotel manager, you’d be responsible for the daytime operations of the hotel; ensuring everything runs smoothly, interacting with guests, managing staff, and setting and maintaining standards of service.
Key duties include opening up the hotel and managing the morning breakfast service, dealing with check outs and check ins, responding to guest enquiries, emails and admin, ensuring rooms are prepared to the highest standards, managing laundry, orders and deliveries and supervising a small team of staff including housekeepers.
When on duty as bistro manager, you’d be responsible for the evening operations of the hotel and bistro.
Key duties include check ins, running the dinner service and ensuring all guest requests are met, managing waiting-on staff, dealing with guest enquiries, admin and being an outstanding host at all times to make all guests and diners feel welcome and looked after.
Both aspects of the role involve answering the telephone, using the computerised booking system, ensuring best practice in terms of health and safety and general conduct are met at all times, and being the main point of contact within the hotel.
Previous management experience in a hotel or licensed premises is highly desirable, however, applications from enthusiastic individuals who can demonstrate excellent organisational and management skills and a passion for hosting/ hospitality will be considered.
Personal transport is essential as Malham does not have any public transport links. It is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Skipton, Settle and Gargrave, 30 minutes from Grassington, one hour from Harrogate.
Competitive hourly rate
Usual days would be Sunday-Thursday including two day shifts (usual working hours 7:30am-4pm), two evening shifts (usual working hours 4pm-11pm) and one alternate day or evening shift each week. Approximate 40 hours per week during high season, likely to reduce to 32 hours in quieter periods usually Nov-Jan. Extra hours to cover annual leave likely to be available at various times throughout year.
